Our Technical dive training philosophies
It may have began when you were swimming over your first steep drop off and were intrigues by the darkness and depths below, or maybe reading dive articles on pioneering exploration dives and the cutting edge of dive technology aroused your curiosity in the nature of deeper diving, for others it may be the allure of discovering different aquatic life or ancient wrecks that motivated them to invest the time, effort and money into technical diver training. Whatever your motivation for extending your bottom time, or for diving to depths beyond the traditional limits of recreational diving, you'll find that at Utila Dive Centre we have a complete and comprehensive range of technical diver programs that train you to safely dive beyond the conventional limits of recreational scuba diving.
Technical diving can be defined as diving deeper than 130ft/40mt, requiring staged decompression procedures, diving in an overhead environment beyond 130 linear feet or 40 linear meters of the surface, accelerated decompression and/or the use of variable gas mixtures throughout the dive mainly consisting of Oxygen, Nitrogen and Helium. Technical diving is not for everyone and has high physical demands and requires complex and extensive training requirements, which limits this area of diving to a very select group of divers. If you have the experience in recreational diving and are willing to commit then we have the staff, facility and experience to train you as a safe, competent and disciplined technical diver.
Utila Dive Centre is both a PADI Career Development Centre and an IANTD Instructor Training facility, which means that we can offer comprehensive technical diver training programs, up to a Trimix Instructor level, from the 2 most credible dive training agencies in the dive industry. During your training with us you will receive classroom sessions supported with the latest teaching materials and 'Microsoft PowerPoint' presentations and training from world wide experienced Instructors (tuition in several languages) who have familiarity and competent diving skills in several different environments. Our group sizes are no more than 4 divers to 1 Instructor and we will bring in additional staff if conditions/group progress dictates. Our standards are high and when you undertake your training with us that is exactly what you are investing in, training not certification, so you can be assured that when you complete our programs you will have attained a high standard of technical dive skill and knowledge. Our 'Open Water' training dives will be conducted on the Southside of Utila before we venture to the deeper Northside walls of the island and the remote outer banks for the final dives of the more advanced technical courses we offer. Our boats are modern and well equipped and safety/comfort orientated. We have our own gas blending station for mixes of 'trimix' and 'nitrox' and compressors.
It doesn't just have to be about training, if you are already a qualified 'extended range/technical diver' or 'trimix' diver then we can custom tailor technical diving packages for individuals or groups that can provide you with your own boat, guides and logistical support teams.
