Iron Shore

Type: Volcanic Rock, Overhangs, Caverns
Depth: 35ft.(10m.) to 140ft.(40m.)+
Location: Northeast Side of Island
Travel Time: 15-20 mins.

Description:
Surrounding long stretches of Utila's coast volcanic rock outcroppings protrude from the islands lush interior. Spectacular from the surface and under water, these rock formations form an exiting topographical variation to Utila's Reef network. From the east end a site called the aquarium allows your first glimpse. Large caverns interspersed with lava tubes allow enough light to observe our more timid friends like midnight parrotfish, giant king crab, and goliath groupers. The dazzling reef fish seen with a backdrop of volcanic rock is an ideal photographic opportunity. Further north, lava tubes form cave entrances which riddle the shoreline and offer a stunning view as the waves crash over head against the cliffs.

Skill Level:
Suitable for Novice/Advanced/Photography/Drift
