There are various ways to enter Honduras, but the preferred one by most travelers from Guatemala is to enter Honduras at Copan Ruinas. This small town has a charming
colonial atmosphere. With the magnificent ancient Maya ruins to visit, horseback riding in the surrounding mountains, The aromatic smell of the coffee and tobacco plantations, great lodging and food for every budget, Copan ruinas is absolutely a place to stop for a few days.

Copan Ruinas is well connected from Antigua Guatemala and Guatemala City in Guatemala; and from San Pedro Sula and Laceiba in Honduras. Several shuttle companies operate a route from and to Copan Ruinas.

Another popular trip for travelers from Guatemala and Belize is to cross the border between Puerto Barrios in Guatemala and Omoa in Honduras. There is a small road now going through the banana plantations. You will be able to visit in Omoa a Spanish fortress that is over looking the Caribbean Sea for 300 years, searching the horizon for English pirates. You will need then to take a bus to Puerto Cortes, San Pedro Sula, and keep going to Laceiba.

From Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama by Bus:

TICA bus: This first class bus company have routes from all Central American capitals to Tegucigalpa (Honduras), seats must be reserved a day in advanced.

HEDMAN ALAS (504 237 7143): Within Honduras, this very good bus company deserves Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, Copan Ruinas and Laceiba.

Please note: All travelers need a passport valid for at least 6 months to enter Honduras. A one-month tourist visa is issued by the immigration at your entry in the country and costs $5/month. You can renew that visa every month and up to 6 months.
