Supporting Research and Conservation

The dive industry on Utila supports up to 85% of the economy of the island and is inextricably linked to the status of the coral reefs. Realising this, and after witnessing the patterns of global decline in the condition of reefs worldwide, the management and owners of one dive facility, Utila Dive Centre, have realised education is a part of the solution and are offering the Beautiful Oceans marine ecology programs for all our divers.

Utila Dive Centre continues to demonstrate its commitment and support of research and actions that are urgently needed to protect the delicate ecosystems around Utila. Utila Dive Centre was one of the founding partners of the 'Utila Centre for Marine Ecology' now with the larger mandate of protecting environments throughout Central America as the 'Centre for Marine Ecology'.
